Welcome to the Stanislaus Grotto. We are the Modesto, California chapter of the National Speleological Society - a national organization dedicated to the preservation, study and exploration of caves.
Chartered by the NSS in 1967, the Stanislaus Grotto has served as an active home to area cave explorers throughout its 45 year history. Located in California's San Joaquin Valley, our focus area includes cave and limestone regions of the central Sierra Nevada.
If you are new to this area of study, please be aware that we are not an adventure club. Although many of our trips do require technical equipment and climbing techniques, the Stanislaus Grotto is primarily interested in preserving our underground resources for the future appreciation, study and enjoyment of society.
